Book Review: India's Struggle for Independence

There were many movies I had watched and a few books I had read which dealt with independence struggle and revolutions in various countries that were very inspirational and motivational. But unfortunately I couldn’t find one, though there are many books available in the market that gives an account of India’s Struggle for Independence. Most of the academic books also gave a dull narration of the most inspiring story thus leaving the potential of the great struggle story yet to be unleashed.
Though belonging to the nonfiction segment and was written mainly for academic purpose, what sets this book (India's Struggle for Independence), written and edited by five expert authors, apart from the crowd is the most exhaustive and precise account it lays before for the reader.
1857 revolt, the back ground and the reasons; Formation of Congress; clarity in the myth surrounding its formation, Struggle with in the Congress, Split of the congress in to moderates and the extremists, civil rebellions and the peasant movements, the noncooperation movement, the civil disobedience movement, the quit India movement and most importantly opinion and views aboutleaders in the process like MangalPandey, Rani Lakshmi Bai, Perozshah Mehta, LalaLajpatRai, Madan Mohan Malivya, BalGandadharTilak, Motilal Nehru,Bhagat Singh, Subash Chandra Bose, Sardar Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru and lengthy account of nonviolent but result yielding powerful tactics of Mahatma Gandhi’s famous civil disobedience and non-cooperation movement, to the final victory in 1947 when the British Raj finally came to an end.The simple language, sentences that make the drama appear before your eyes when reading it and the critique/opinion on the leaders that had set stage for the Independence makes it a unique read.
Please go for it to appreciate the Indian Independence Struggle in an inspiring manner. No doubt you would want to be more Indian after reading the book.
